Sleepy-head Matt early on Day 10

We were out of camp at 8:15 with the day's destination of Muir Trail Ranch. On the way down the hill we saw more deer,

and as always the scenery was beautiful.

We arrived at Muir Trail Ranch at ten.

Our goal was to be in and out in two hours, as we wanted to get to Goddard Canyon to camp that evening. It turned out we spent over three hours, but part of that was eating lunch. Part of the extra time was well spent, as we picked up extra food and medical supplies from the many hiker bins there.

11 days of food is a ton!!

We also ate to our heart's content while we were there. Last order of business was to pick up a bit of extra fuel, as we burned through all of on 16oz canister in the first 10 days. Even though we had a couple of no cook breakfasts, we expected it would get colder as we went, and boy were were right.

We left at 1:15 with 7 miles to go to Goddard canyon. But before leaving, we weighed our packs with 11 days of food. We were each at 42 pounds. So much for lightweight backpacking . . . .
We spent the afternoon hiking along the South Fork of the San Joaquin River, with great views of the river and surrounding mountains along the way.

We hiked until five and thought we had reached Goddard Canyon, but obviously did not inspect our maps closely enough. Turns out we were one mile short, but the camp was very nice, and there was no one else around . Considering we spent three hours at MTR we saw very few people today. We had our after food pickup dinner of smoked salmon pasta and bacon cheese bread.
Mark was the pasta chef tonight, using fresh garlic and shallots,

While I baked the bacon cheese bread (to perfection 😎)

nice fire, no worries.

At least for me. Mark spent much of the evening tending his blistered feet so we could get out quickly in the morning.
We plan to camp at the outlet of evolution lake tomorrow.
Our inreach location for the day is here
Miles hiked: 10
Elevation gain: 810'
Elevation lost: 2050'
