Day 13. 37f in the morning. I think this was my favorite day so far
maybe best day in the sierras ever. I just loved walking down Le Conte Canyon and
seeing the mountains on both sides looming over head,

and walking next to the middle fork of the Kings River.

Cascading waterfalls

After yesterday’s large elevation drop it was very nice to have a very easy hike in the morning. I would love to bring Susan here to explore as well.
We got to the Palisade Creek junction at noon and ate lunch there by an old bridge foundation.

It looked like a rock or log had wiped out the bridge some time ago. Great place to dry out our gear from a damp night in Big Pete.
We spent all afternoon hiking up Palisade Creek. The hike was easy for the first few hours,

then very challenging as we climbed up and out of the canyon into the Palisades Lakes basin.

The upper lake was only a half mile away and 50' of elevation so we decided to push on. Turned out the trail climbed a few hundred feet above the upper lake.

But we found a great sheltered spot so we could cowboy camp again.
Our campsite location
was at 10,800’, the highest camp so far, just a bit higher than Evolution Lake. We had extra bacon and parmesan cheese to add
to the cheesy mashed potatoes and they were the best so far. Pudding for
dessert and a fabulous sunset topped it off.

In bed before 9.
