Day 16, September 21, 2017 - Woods Creek

Day 16.  I went to bed last night cowboy style. Around 2:30 I woke up and saw most of the stars were gone, meaning the clouds had moved back in. After debating for 30 minutes or so, I eventually decided to set up my tent. I got it up in 10 minutes or less and went right back to sleep.  It was a good decision, as before morning the rain started.  And after the rain, when morning came the hail started.

After trading messages with Susan regarding the weather we decided to stay put for the day. The prediction was for one day of inclement weather, then sunny and cold for several days.  Temp in the morning was 37F, the lowest we saw today was 30F with snow flurries.

Fortunately we had planned a no cook breakfast for this day.  Mark distributed the food, and we hung out in our tents.  The morning was spent napping until late morning.  We got rain showers, hail, and a bit of snow until around noon. Even though neither of us ate all our breakfast, it was time for lunch.

The rain/hail slowed down for about an hour, and we started to consider packing up and hiking to Rae Lakes.  Then the hail really picked up for about an hour

and the decision was made (again) to spend the whole day there.  Back to napping for awhile.  When the considered staying there for the day I thought I would be bored out of my mind.  My body took over and decided napping for five or six hours was the perfect way to spend the day.  Mark may have slept even more.

From 2:30 on it was either light hail/snow or nothing. The weather let up in the late afternoon, so we got out and checked out the new scenery around us,

and we made dinner at five, ate around six by the fire

with fresh baked cookie for dessert. They just don't cook very well up here at elevation, but still taste good. After dinner and a great fire, we went to bed. Even with sleeping off and on all day, sleeping at night was no problem.

The goal for tomorrow is out of camp by 8, over Glen pass and as far as we can comfortably get towards Forrester Pass.
